Do I need a permit to remove a tree on my property in Edmonton?

As long as the tree is located on your property and not on public property, you are permitted to remove any tree you wish. Some cities in Canada require permits. Edmonton does not require a homeowner to obtain a permit to remove their trees; however, this may change in the future due to the risk of tree removals. What is the best time of year to have my trees pruned in Edmonton?

Fall, Winter, and Spring are all excellent seasons to prune your trees. Summer is still an acceptable time to prune trees; however, younger trees may experience greater stress due to the Summer’s heat. 

When can Elm trees be pruned in Edmonton?

According to a City of Edmonton bylaw, Elm trees can only be pruned from October 1st to March 31st to prevent the spread of Dutch Elm Disease. This fungal disease has killed many Elms in other provinces of Canada. Tree Ninja is committed to preserving Elm trees, one of Edmonton’s most beautiful tree species by proper pruning techniques and obeying bylaws.

Stump Grinding

After a tree removal, the stump can either be cut to grade or ground out. To ensure the tree will not regrow, it is a great idea to stump grind. It allows the customer to landscape or plant a garden where the tree once was. We perform stump removal by unloading a self-propelled machine from a trailer and driving it to the stump. Titanium teeth spin incredibly fast and grind the stump in a sweeping action. Shields are placed around the stump to prevent flying wood chips from damaging the customer’s property.

How much of the root system do you grind?

Our machine allows us to grind the entire root collar which is about 10-12 inches below the surface. We will also grind all exposed roots surrounding the stump. This would allow the customer to plant a new tree in place of the previous one if so desired.

 

How much does stump removal cost in Edmonton?

It is very simple to estimate the cost of our stump removals. In Edmonton, We charge $10 per inch measured from the longest distance of the stump’s diameter. This equates to an average stump costing around $120-150 to remove by grinding.
